The 2015 regular legislative session has concluded with no reform for Alabama’s brewing industry. It is disappointing, but unfortunately not unexpected. We passed a Senate committee, but none of our bills received floor vote. We now have to wait until 2016 to try again.
The silver lining this year is the formation of the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Study Commission. This commission has given itself the mission of providing recommendations to create “fair, consistent, and best practices legislation for Alabama’s alcohol industry” and will submit proposals by the end of this year after studying the issue and holding public hearings.
In advance of the commission, we are discussing issues with our industry partners. Based on those discussions and our internal decision-making processes, we will soon be releasing our proposals for the commission to consider.
