We continuously research state history in Alabama due to a quirky law that requires that brewpubs in Alabama be located “in a wet county or wet municipality, in which county beer was brewed for public consumption prior to the ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1919” (Ala. Code § 28-4A-3). We have added two new breweries to the list we feel meets this requirement – Dallas County and Morgan County – bringing the total identified up to 13.
In 2014, the Alabama Brewers Guild intends to write and advocate for legislation to remove this requirement from state law. Initial discussions with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board about this topic have been positive, and we are preparing for the 2014 regular session.
Would love to know the area in Dallas County?
Just checking to see if any headway has been made. We are in the process of opening a homebrew supply and tap room, but would love to be able to brew on premis. The licensing we are applying for are for onsite/offsit beer and wine. Further, it would be a great marketing tool if we could “babysit” customers brews in a climate controlled room. Silly AL laws, compared to most other states.
