Earlier this year, the Alabama Brewers Guild compiled the first State of Alabama Beer survey. We showed that beer production in Alabama grew by 118% in 2012, the third year of triple-digit growth. Together, the breweries in Alabama produced roughly 0.2 gallons of beer per person of drinking age in the state. The Beer Institute also recently released a national report that showed that beer consumption actually went down in 2012 by approximately 0.2 gallons per person.

This won’t be surprising to those who love craft beer, but it shows that Alabama can have a thriving local beer industry without an increase in alcohol consumption.
